Just received my first kurta today as a gift from Nepali frdneis in Columbus, OH USA. It is very comfortable and flattering. I understand they need to be washed by hand, is that true? Or, does it just depend on what it is made out of. I’m not sure how often I will wear it. I feel kind of self-conscious in it when I’m out in public and not with my Nepali frdneis. I suppose if I was in Nepal I might feel differently.[]antonia Reply:August 15th, 2011 at 9:25 amCarol, most handmade kurtas do need to be washed by hand, but you could always try it in the machine on the handwash cycle. A lot depends on the material how tough it is, whether the dyes will run, etc. Enjoy your kurta .now you have an excuse to go to Nepal, where you won’t feel out of place wearing it![]
